Emergency Evacuation

Our emergency evacuation exhaust systems are versatile, dependable and safe, providing your operation with an extra layer of protection in the case of a dangerous or catastrophic event. Each emergency exhaust system’s blower design is rated AMCA Type B spark resistant construction and is supplied with a TEXP motor (totally enclosed explosion proof).

CASE STUDY: OCEAN CARGO SHIP EXHAUST SYSTEM

Background

An industry leading marine vessel manufacturer launched the first of six new ships that incorporate clean-burning liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology. This ship is the first of its kind in the U.S. The vessel is constructed of environmentally friendly materials, features an advanced alarm system, and is continuously manned by a certified Environmental Officer.

Problem

The ship uses LNG as a fuel source to power the ship. The LNG is in a gaseous state at negative 325 degrees Fahrenheit, and the pipe carrying the LNG is enclosed in an outer pipe, creating an enclosed space where gas could collect if it is not exhausted properly. Should any upset incur, it is imperative that a proper emergency exhaust system be in place to avoid dangerous conditions or accidents.

Solution

During normal operating conditions, our unit pulls ambient air from the space between the pipes. Should an upset occur, the LNG may discharge into the space between the two pipes and our unit is used to exhaust the LNG to atmosphere above the deck of the cargo ship.

Our Venturi exhauster has an unobstructed flow path, and the fan assembly is completely out of the flow path of the exhausted vapors. With no moving parts in the exhaust airstream, our design allows for virtually no maintenance on this environmentally friendly vessel, which further contributes to the ship’s breakthrough design.

Results

The ship will be certified by the American Bureau of Shipping as “ENVIRO+, Green Passport” status, which means this vessel meets stringent guidelines that designate it as an environmentally friendly ship. Quickdraft is proud to be a part of this advanced technological vessel, and the customer is pleased to have a virtually maintenance free system that further contributes to the safety and design of the ship.
